Nele Hendrikje Sandner
Nele Hendrikje Sandner, a visual artist from Leipzig, works with drawings, collages and pictorial objects made of paper. Her art addresses the changeability of the material and the traces of life on human bodies without being obtrusively figurative. Sustainability is a central element of her work, as she uses almost exclusively found and collected paper scraps.
Sandner uses a variety of techniques such as paper making, coloring, cutting and recombining to give the paper new shapes and meanings. Old artworks and misprints are further processed and integrated into new works of art, creating a separate recycling cycle in her studio. She collects materials from various sources, such as unrolled toilet paper garlands from theaters or shredded bureaucracy.
Papermaking opens up an almost inexhaustible world of possibilities for her. In doing so, she intuitively combines different techniques and artistic approaches. She does not consider air bubbles, pulp accumulations and cracks in the paper as flaws, but as unique features that emphasize the individuality and character of the material. These peculiarities of paper have become an essential part of her artistic expression.
