Lucie MacGregor acknowledges her outside view of Berlin and is curious to see how her recently created sculpture might evolve through travel, new audiences, and unexpected collaborations.

"Tree woz ere", 2023, is a sculpture made of paper pulp plates enclosing a cylindrical metal frame. This frame, originally a tree container, was found on the street in London. Instead of holding a growing tree, these metal shapes are now surrounded by a material that was once a tree but now exists as paper. The pulped surfaces archive fragments of a wall that was once covered in graffiti.

MacGregor plans to create a Berlin version of this sculpture in the Paper Lab, using paper she finds in the city, as well as some of the original plates and graffiti fragments from both cities. She will be limited by the amount of paper she can carry in her luggage, looking for masses of paper from friends and strangers in Berlin as well as from the many peeling posters in the city. These panels could exist without a sculptural structure and develop differently than the London original, which represents an exciting future for the work. "Tree is here", 2024, will also invite paper contributions from visitors to further grow the next work.

Lucie MacGregor, born in 1996 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, lives and works in London. She has presented her work in numerous exhibitions, including "Tethered" at Unit 2 Gallery and "Mermaids" at Corner7 Gallery in London. MacGregor is also active as a workshop leader, leading workshops for SEN schools at Camden Art Centre and intergenerational workshops with Towner Gallery.  Her artistic practice includes both exhibitions and public art workshops, focusing on sustainable materials and community projects.
