In her works, the Mariella Maier makes invisible social structures visible and explores the limits of what is possible. For example, by founding a parallel academy in the already existing Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, which shows and questions the institutional structures of this educational space (www.peacedamage.org).
In recent years, it has not only dealt with resistant structures, but also with resistant materials: among other things, the Nettle - an underrated plant that can be used both as a natural medicinal and food and as an alternative resource (e.g. production of textile fibres or insulating materials).
Her works range from performative interventions in public space to usable sculptures in the white cube. Collective and independent work overlap and enrich each other in her practice. Her works have been shown at Manifesta 12 in Palermo/Italy, Kunsthaus Dahlem Berlin, Galerie der Künstler*innen and Lothringer 13 Halle in Munich, among others. She received the Prize of the Antonia and Herrmann Götz Foundation for Young Art (2022) and was a Germany Scholarship holder of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (2023/4).
