 Fecal Matters(2019)

As part of the Paper Future Lab, Nicholas Plunkett is exhibiting Fecal Matters.

Fecal Matters asks questions about personal habits and the social context. Due to its cultural connotation, its origin and its original use, the material is judged negatively. What are the limits of interaction with used hygiene products? Where is the threshold of disgust and to what extent can it be shifted through design?

Can a material that has been flushed down the toilet become a design object? Can it be worn on the body as clothing, even used as tableware?

Through a communication and design strategy, the project encourages an open perception of waste products and new materials. At the same time, it informs about the ecological footprint of toilet paper.
